A: Counselors and psychologists both provide valuable mental health support but have distinct roles based on their training and scope of practice.
As a counselor, I focus primarily on helping clients develop personal coping strategies, work through personal and emotional challenges, and improve their interpersonal relationships. The therapeutic approach is geared towards promoting mental wellness and handling life transitions, stress, relationship issues, and self-improvement strategies.
Unlike counselors, psychologists have specialised training that allows them to diagnose mental health conditions. They often engage in detailed psychological assessments and are qualified to administer and interpret diagnostic tests that help identify specific psychological conditions.
While I, as a counselor, do not diagnose conditions, my role is to provide support and therapy to help clients navigate their emotional landscapes and improve their quality of life. If a diagnosis or more specialised mental health treatment is needed, I can help facilitate referrals to qualified psychologists or other mental health professionals.
