Autism and ADHD Therapy

In Wollongong and Online

Move from feeling overwhelmed by social struggles and focus issues to thriving in your world with confidence.

Does adapting to the expectations of a neurotypical world exhaust you, leaving you feeling out of step or misunderstood?

Maybe you’ve had a meltdown at work after feeling overwhelmed by multi-tasking demands, or perhaps you’ve experienced a social faux pas that led to isolation and misunderstanding at a social event. You might struggle to meet deadlines or manage household tasks effectively, or you might find coping with sensory overloads increasingly difficult, exhausting you by day’s end. Perhaps you’re feeling disconnected from others, unsure how to express your needs in a way that others understand.

In all arenas of your life, your neurodiversity consistently shapes how you engage with the world.

At work, you might struggle to stay focused and productive, finding that typical office distractions, like conversations, easily pull your attention away from tasks. Prioritizing your workload and managing time efficiently can also pose significant challenges, affecting both your performance and job satisfaction.

As a result, you may start to feel isolated, even when you’re physically together. The emotional distance that grows from a lack of communication can make you feel disconnected and alone, despite being in the same space.

You also might experience heightened sensitivity to sensory inputs, feeling overwhelmed by everyday environments due to bright lights, strong smells, or background noise. This heightened sensitivity can lead to discomfort or even the avoidance of certain places and situations, which impacts your daily routines and social life.

The challenges and frustrations you’re experiencing go beyond simple distractions; they reveal deeper struggles with focus, sensory processing, and social interaction, impacting your ability to navigate daily life effectively and comfortably. Recognizing these struggles is a crucial first step toward managing your neurodiversity and improving your life quality. This journey will empower you to develop strategies that respect your unique needs, enabling you to achieve better focus, smoother social interactions, and a more satisfying daily experience. Together, we can find ways to adjust your environment and interactions to better suit your personal strengths and challenges.

When Chris Stopped Trying to 'Fix' His ADHD

Chris came to therapy feeling overwhelmed by his ADHD. He was recently diagnosed with ADHD and realised alot of his struggles were because of his ADHD. Managing ADHD as an adult was a whole new challenge. The demands of work and daily life left him feeling scattered, and he struggled to stay focused, especially in a busy, overstimulating work environment. On top of that, he found himself forgetting to reply to friends, and often out of energy from masking all day which left him feeling disconnected and, honestly, pretty lonely. Chris was frustrated. Simple tasks like cleaning felt impossible, and no matter how hard he tried, he always felt behind. His goal was to find strategies that worked for him so he could feel more balanced and connected—both at work and in his personal life.

During our sessions, one of the first things Chris realized was that ADHD wasn’t a flaw—it was just a different way his brain worked. And with the right tools, he could manage it. This shift in thinking really helped him be kinder to himself. He started seeing his “hobby-hopping” and curiosity as strengths, rather than distractions. We worked on building a flexible structure for his days—something that gave him enough focus to get things done but still kept things fun and interesting. Chris also started practicing self-compassion, which was a big one for him. Instead of beating himself up for making mistakes, he learned to give himself space to grow, without guilt. He stopped labeling himself as lazy or forgetful and began accepting that his brain just works differently. And that was okay.

Over time, Chris picked up some really helpful strategies. He started using time-blocking techniques, built a routine that actually supported him, and worked on mindfulness that were neurospicy friendly to manage his emotions. Previously he hated meditation and breathing techniques but using mindfulness and being present in a way that actually worked for him became a game changer. By the end of our work together, Chris was feeling much more confident—both in his personal life and at work. He felt reconnected with his friends, more present in his social life, and way more comfortable in his work environment.
